La Plata, MD – The Charles County Fair wrapped up Sunday, Sept. 18 after four days of cloudy days but no rain.
When the rains came Monday morning, Charles County Fair President J.T. Hindle said it was right on time.
โIt was an excellent fair,โ Hindle said. โIt was really pleasant.โ
He conjectured that attendance for the year was about the same as last year.
โI thought it was a little lighter on Sunday than in years past,โ he said, โprobably because of the Redskins game.โ
Unlike some fairs in not the not-too-distant past, incidents between โkids being kidsโ were noticeably absent this year.
โEveryone got along pretty good,โ he added. โThere were no incidents on the rides. Of course, the [Charles County] Sheriffโs Office was here. They did their job well. If anything started up, they took care of it right away.โ
Hindle said that even though another fair is in the history books, that doesnโt mean the fair board gets to rest on its laurels.
โWeโre already starting planning for next year,โ he said. โThere are a few changes I would like to make for next year. Nothing dramatic. I would like to add some new entertainment.โ
St. Maryโs County will pick up the baton and will begin their county fair this week. Calvert County will host its fair in Barstow the following week.
