On 4/28/2012 at 0226 hours, police, fire and rescue personnel responded to a single-vehicle motor vehicle collision involving a fatality. The collision occurred on North Sandgates Road in the area of Sandgates Trail Lane, Mechanicsville, STM, Maryland. Trooper First Class M. Pitcher of the Maryland State Police, Leonardtown Barrack, was the first police officer on the scene and conducted the preliminary investigation.

Preliminary investigation revealed a 1996 Dodge Intrepid was being operated westbound on North Sandgates Road east of Sandgates Trail Lane. The vehicle skidded off the roadway into the grass and struck two large utility poles. The driver, identified as 21 year old Kelly Marie Cox of Accokeek, Maryland, and the rear passenger, identified as 23 year old Patricia Dawn Hampton of Mechanicsville, Maryland, were found near the vehicle conscious.  Both were transported to Prince George’s Shock Trauma with non-life threatening injuries. The front seat passenger in the vehicle, identified as 23 years old Brittany Lynn Lanham of Mechanicsville, Maryland, was pronounced deceased on the scene by medical personnel. Ms. Lanham’s family was located and notified of the collision.  There was no indication of seatbelt usage by any occupant
 
Investigators from the Maryland State Police Crash Team responded and assumed the investigation. The collision is still currently under investigation.
