At 1:43pm, on December 31, Allen James Lyon of Charlotte Hall operating a 1998 Ford Explorer was traveling North on Route 5 in the area of North Earnshaw Way, Mechanicsville, when he failed to keep right of the center, crossed into the Southbound lane of Rt. 5 and struck head on a 1988 Chevrolet S-10, operated by Albert Marshall Cook Jr. At this time speed and/or alcohol do not appear to be a contributing factor.
Both Allen James Lyon, and a juvenile passenger were flown to Washington Hospital for treatment and released.
Albert Marshall Cook Jr. succumbed to his injuries at the scene of the collision.
The Sheriff’s Office Reconstruction team is conducting the investigation.
