St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office patrol units responded to the area of Point Lookout Road and Birch Manor Drive November 28th at approximately 12:35 p.m. for the report of a motor vehicle accident.
Investigation revealed a 2000 Jeep Cherokee, operated by Denice Dickens, 47, of Huntingtown was preparing to turn left onto Birch Manor Drive from northbound Point Lookout Road.
A 2011 Chevrolet Cruze, operated by Crystal Edelen, 20, of Abell was traveling north on Point Lookout Road and struck the rear of the Jeep Cherokee. Thomas Kidwell, 82, of Mechanicsville, a passenger in the Jeep, was flown from the scene to PG Shock Trauma with serious injuries.
On Dec. 10, Kidwell died as a result of his injuries while in the hospital.
The St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office Collision Reconstruction Team assumed the investigation. At this time, alcohol or speed do not appear to be a contributing factor(s).
