Update Jan.4 12:25 p.m.
On January 3, 2016, at 5:48 p.m., deputies from the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office responded to the area of Three Notch Road and Mercedes Drive in California, Maryland for the report of a serious motor vehicle accident involving a pedestrian. When they arrived on the scene, police and EMS discovered Darrell Fredrick Weatherly, age 50 of Great Mills, had succumbed to his injuries.
The St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office Collision Reconstruction Unit assumed the investigation.
The investigation revealed Weatherly was operating a bicycle when an unknown vehicle struck him, subsequently ejecting him from the bicycle. The unknown vehicle, which is believed to be a 2010 or 2011 Hyundai Santa Fe, fled the scene. Evidence suggests the vehicle should have damage to the front end, which may include the bumper, side view mirror, and hood.

Update- Jan.3 6:00 p.m.
Units are on the scene and confirmed a patient on a bicycle has died from the injuries sustained from a motor vehicle striking the subject on their bike.
The accident occurred on Three Notch Rd and Chancellors Run Road.
According to St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office “Three Notch Road S/B will be closed at Chancellors Run Road for a crash investigation. Traffic being diverted onto Chancellors Run Road. Use Caution.”

California, MD– At approximately 5:55 p.m., a motor vehicle accident was reported on Three Notch Road in the California area.
Injuries are reported as a result of this car accident. Early reports are that a pedestrian has been struck on their bike by a motor vehicle.
