Prince Frederick, MD – After a day of thanks, the Calvert County community embarks on three days of remembrance. That has been the tradition for 26 years now. The movable event is the Festival of Trees and it benefits Calvert Hospice.
For the second year in a row, Festival of Trees is being held on the campus of St. John Vianney Catholic Church on Main Street in Prince Frederick. Two campus venues—the Family Life Center and the Vianney Room—are utilized. The event started Friday evening, Nov. 28 and concludes Sunday, Nov. 30.
According to a letter of welcome in the event program written by Calvert Hospice Executive Director Brenda Laughhun, the 2014 Festival theme is “making spirits bright.” Laughhun stated this “reflects the joy associated with this annual event.”
The meticulously and creatively decorated Christmas trees on display—4-1/2-foot and 6-1/2-foot trees—are each sponsored and many are available for sale by auction. There is also an abundant display of Poinsettias. The trees and plants honor and memorialize individuals, friends and family.
Over 40 vendors have works on display and for sale at the fest.
Festival of Trees is also a showcase for local talent—singers, musicians and dancers. Performers contributing to this year’s fest include Bob Snider, Jim “Rockin’ Elvis” Godbold, Chesapeake Bronze Hand Bells, Jesus the Good Shepherd Church Choir, Abigail Francisco’s School of Classical Ballet, The Sisters Trio, Huntingtown High School Strings Quartet, Bruce Rider Group, Acapella Vocal Ensemble and Calvert Brass Consortium.
Eleven corporate sponsors help make the event possible, along with a large group of volunteers.
