State authorities are investigating a fire that occurred Wednesday afternoon, March 5 at a vacant one-story house in Charles County. According to the Maryland State Fire Marshalโ€™s Office, the blaze was reported shortly before 3 p.m.

The house on Marshall Corner Road in Pomfret is owned by Myrtle Swann, investigators said.

Twenty-seven volunteer firefightersโ€”from Bryans Road, La Plata, Marbury, Potomac Heights, Bel Alton and Waldorfโ€” were dispatched to the one-alarm blaze and brought the flames under control in 20 minutes.

According to a report submitted by Dfm. Don Brenneman, the damage to the structure and contents is estimated at $5,000. There were no injuries reported.

โ€œThe origin and cause of the fire are under investigation,โ€ Brenneman stated. The Charles County Sheriffโ€™s Office is assisting in the investigation.
