A fire Monday morning destroyed a garage and its contents including a car on Cobb Island. The fire reported at shortly before 10 a.m. did $30,000 damage to the garage on Piedmont Drive and $20,000 to the contents. The owner of the garage was Florence Barone.
It took 24 firefighters from Cobb Island, Newburg, Bel Alton, King George, VA and Naval District, Washington 15 minutes to bring the blaze under control. The fire was reported by a neighbor
An investigation by the Maryland State Fire Marshal’s Office determined the cause of the fire to have ben accidental; due to an electrical malfunction in the garage. The mishap was investigated by Deputy Fire Marshal Dexter Hodges.
