Indian Head, MD — A farm house in Indian Head was completely destroyed by fire on Wednesday afternoon. According to the Maryland State Fire Marshalโ€™s Office, the blaze at the house on Highground Farm Place caused $150,000 damage to the single-family dwelling and $50,000 to the contents. The house was owned by John Fuchs.

According to Deputy State Fire Marshal Don Brenneman, โ€œThe owner reportedly left the house earlier in the day with a fire burning in the fireplace.โ€ According to witnesses the fire originated in the chimney and attic areas. The cause remains under investigation.

The fire was called in at 3:58 p.m. by a near-by relative. Forty-seven firefighters from Marbury, Naval Surface Warfare Center, Potomac Heights, Nanjemoy, La Plata, Accokeek, Indian Head, Bryans Road, Waldorf and Bel Alton responded. It took them 45 minutes to bring the blaze under control. No one was injured.

When firefighters arrived they had to establish a rural water supply operation to fight the fire.

The owner is being assisted by family members.
