RIDGE, Md. – The Maryland State Fire Marshal is investigating one call the Ridge Volunteer Fire Department(VFD) responded to last week, inside one of Ridge Elementary’s external buildings.

The Ridge VFD responded to reported smoke which was coming from one of the heating units in one of the school cottages on Jan. 12 at 4:16 p.m. Upon Ambulance 496C’s arrival at 49430 Airedale Road, they confirmed smoke permeating the side of the structure.

Engine 41 arrived on the scene by 4:21 p.m. and began trying to extinguish the flames from inside the structure. Squad 4 arrived and assisted Engine 41’s crew with extinguishment as well as assisting Tanker 4 with establishing a water supply. Engine 141 arrived soon after and assisted crews with ventilation and overhaul.

The fire was completely extinguished and under control of the volunteers by 4:28 p.m.

The fire is still under investigation by the Maryland State Fire Marshal’s Office. We will provide updates when their report is released.
