Just before 10:15 p.m. Tuesday Bay District Volunteer Fire Department responded to a fire on Windsor Drive in Lexington Park.

Apparently food cooking on the stove in one half of a duplex apartment caught fire and expanded to the kitchen cabinets above the stove. The occupants reported the fire was spreading and they could not stop it.

After the call was dispatched, Bay District volunteers arrived almost immediately, and quickly dispatched the growing blaze.

The other half of the duplex was evacuated as a precaution.

As additional fire trucks arrived and staged on nearby Lincoln Avenueas backup, crews inside the house checked for fire extension and aired out the smoke.

The fire was ruled on the scene as accidental and the Maryland State Fire Marshal informed command he would not respond to investigate.

Units cleared the scene a little overย an hour after they arrived.
