Prince Frederick, MD – State investigators reported April 5 that a fire that occurred late Wednesday night in Calvert County originated in a detached garage and then spread to a house. Both structures at the property on Solomons Island Road in Prince Frederick were completely destroyed by the fire with damage estimated at $425,000. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

โ€œThe occupants were displaced and are being assisted by the American Red Cross,โ€ the Maryland State Fire Marshalโ€™s Office reported. โ€œThere were no injuries as a result of the fire but several animals perished in the incident.โ€

Fifty firefighters responded to the one-alarm blaze and brought the flames under control in two hours. The fire was discovered by the property owner.

Prince Frederick, MD – After responding to a devastating fire that resulted in two deaths during the late afternoon hours in Chesapeake Beach, Calvert County’s volunteer firefighters were dispatched to a late-night blaze in the Prince Frederick/Port Republic area April 3. The house fire off northbound Route 2/4 (Solomons Island Road) in the area of Wood Acres Court was reported at around 10 p.m. Arriving firefighters found the structure fully involved. Police closed down the roadway for three-and-a-half hours as crews fought the fire.

At this time there are no reports of injuries. A full report on the incident is pending.
