Chesapeake Beach, MD – Calvert Countyโs Twin Beach towns got the Independence Day holiday off to an early start Sunday, July 2. The Town of Chesapeake Beachโs annual fireworks show started shortly after dusk. Dubbed โFireworks Over the Bay,โ the spectacle could also be viewed in North Beach as well.
At Chesapeake Beach Resort and Spa, hundreds gathered to enjoy great food, music and stake out a great spot to view the pyrotechnics, which were shot from two barges. Several spectators watched from the boat dock, others on the sandy strip in front of the Rod โNโ Reel Restaurant and even more in front of the band shell. For several hours the revelers were entertained by the band Split2nd. The Maryland-based group has been named โBest Local Bandโ four years in a row by the readers of Gazette Newspapers. The band performed an array of familiar hits by the Rolling Stones, Earth, Wind and Fire, Sam and Daveโeven Barry Manilow. Chesapeake Beach Resort and Spa entertainment director Murphy Smilardo told TheBayNet.com that two shows were recently added to the 2017 Rock the Dock schedule. On Wednesday, July 12 โLights Outโ a โJersey Boys Tributeโ will perform from 7 to 9:30 p.m. The popular 1970s soul group The Spinners are booked for Saturday, July 15 from 7 to 9:30 p.m. For more information on the shows, visit the Resort and Spaโs web site.
As it has in years past, the Calvert County Sheriffโs Office traffic plan proved effective in getting cars out of the Twin Beach area in a timely manner. The traffic plan eliminates all left hand turns. Route 261 has delineation devices installed to prohibit U-turns.
