It is with a deep sense of regret that I inform you of the passing of Retired Sheriff Francis “Buddy” Garner, on Thursday, November 21, 2013. Sheriff Garner was elected as the Sheriff of Charles County in 1958 and served in the position for 20 years – the longest in the county’s history – retiring in 1978. Prior to that, he was appointed as an officer with the Sheriff’s Office in 1953.
I’ve known Sheriff Garner a long time. In fact, he gave me my first job with the Sheriff’s Office as a correctional officer. He was a friend of our family and he will be missed.
