Indian Head, MD โ On April 24, 2017 at approximately 3:56 p.m., Troopers from the Maryland State Police La Plata Barrack responded to a personal injury collision involving two vehicles on southbound Indian Head Highway at Lackey Drive.
An investigation conducted by Troopers indicates that a 2009 Ford Econoline van, operated by William Cooper, 74 of Indian Head, was attempting to turn left from Lackey Drive onto northbound Indian Head Highway when it failed to yield the right-of-way to, and was struck by, a 1992 Chevrolet LLV postal truck, operated by Russell Brann, 47 of Mechanicsville, as it was traveling southbound on Indian Head Highway.
The Ford Econoline, owned by a martial arts company, had just departed Indian Head Elementary School with 8 students, ages 6-10, on board. As a result of the collision, Brann and four children were injured and transported by EMS to local hospitals for treatment. The remaining four children were not injured and were reunited with their parents on scene.
Driver error was found to be the cause of this collision and Cooper, who was uninjured, was issued a citation for failing to yield the right-of-way.
