ย On Monday, January 16, 2012, the passing of Charles “Jenks” Mattingly III was regretfully announced.
Jenks proudly served the volunteer fire service for over fifty years.ย He was a Past President and Past Chief of the Hollywood Volunteer Fire Department, and currently serving as Chaplain.ย In 1995 Jenks served as President of the Southern Maryland Volunteer Firemen’s Association and in 2001 became the President of the Maryland State Firemen’s Association.ย He was also a Past President of the 3rd & 6th District Volunteer Rescue Squad.ย Jenks served in many capacities, both elected and appointed, in Hollywood, Southern Maryland, and the Maryland State Firemen’s Association during his years of service.ย
On Friday, January 20, 2012, family, friends, and fellow emergency personel from all around gathered at the Hollywood Volunteer Fire Department to celebrate the life of a man who many refered to as an icon. The funeral procession left the fire house and continued down to St. Johns Catholic Churchย where Mr. Mattingly attended and volunteered in addition to the fire service.ย Three Notch Road was temporarily shut down with fire apparatus alond side law enforcement to allow the procession to pass. Along the route, local firefighters, police officers, and citizens could be seen paying respect to Mr. Mattingly. The funeral service was held atย St. Johns Catholic Church where Mr. Mattingly was laId to rest.ย
