The 2010 Technology Handbook for St. Mary’s County is now available for distribution. Listing 221 technology firms, the 104-page handbook features cover artwork designed and produced by Edward Holton, Jr., a graphic artist at ManTech Systems Engineering and Advanced Technology Group, located in Lexington Park, MD.
Holton will be recognized by the County Commissioners of St. Mary’s County. He received a $500 award from The Patuxent Partnership for designing the winning entry. Jane Walter, Board President, The Patuxent Partnership, credits the handbook for an important role in the development of the St. Mary’s County technology industry cluster. Ms. Walter is a Senior Associate with Booz Allen Hamilton in Lexington Park, MD. Artists had to reside or be employed in St. Mary’s County to participate.
The 2010 cover features the US Navy’s Broad Area Maritime Surveillance (BAMS) Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS) highlighting NAS Patuxent River’s location in St. Mary’s County as well as the EA-18G Growler in flight. Both are current, vital aviation defense programs at Pax River.
“I was impressed with all of the designs,” said Commissioner Jack Russell, President, Board of County Commissioners. “They each merged the county’s growth in technology businesses with the heritage and history that form the foundation of our county. The Technology Handbook is used often throughout the county as a business development tool. The Handbook allows businesses to seek potential teaming partners and learn more about the technology firms in our area.”
Printed annually, the Technology Handbook is also available online in pdf format at www.stmarysmd.com/decd/handbook. The search feature can also be used to quickly find the most current business contact and profile information, including technology capabilities.
New in 2010! Search by NAICS (North American Industry Classification System) Codes online. The NAICS Codes for the listed technology firms are not printed in the handbook but can be accessed online. Plus, you can now filter by city, business classification, and/or NAICS code! You can also search by keyword. These online enhancements will allow companies to locate key service firms to assist them in the future growth and success of their company. The handbook is one of the tools produced by the Department of Economic and Community Development.
