SOLOMONS, MD — The most memorable days end with the dirtiest clothes.

The young and young at heart rolled around in the mud and celebrated International Mud Day at the second annual Annmarie Sculpture Garden and Arts Center Mud Day June 26.

During the afternoon of muddy mayhem, event-goers were able to get dirty with squishy art projects and earthy masterpieces in the mud kitchen.

Crafting projects available during the event included creating a desert or forest terrarium, made from reclaimed bottles and glassware, sand, soil, rocks, and a selection of succulents or moss. They could also make seed bombs to plant at home.

Using pool noodles, beach balls, and their imaginations, clean children slid into the mud pits to return as little mud balls caked in the muck. With two pits to choose from, event-goers were advised to enter at their own risk. Water misted down from above to keep the fun going for hours.

When attendees had their fill of wet earth, they rinsed off and took a walk through the Squish-a-Face Forest, where they could create Celtic Greenmen on the pines and other trees using mud and other natural decorations.

Calvert Kettle Corn and Kona Ice vendors were on site to provide light snacking.
