ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย  The St. Maryโ€™s County Bureau of Criminal Investigations is an investigative team comprised of Detectives from the St. Maryโ€™s County Sheriffโ€™s Office and the Maryland State Police, Leonardtown Barrack.ย  The unit was established on July 1, 2003 and is based in Leonardtown, Maryland.

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย  On March 21, 2011 St. Maryโ€™s County Bureau of Criminal Investigations received a report of suspected child abuse from the Maryland Department of Social Services alleging a school teacher, employed by the St. Maryโ€™s County Public Schools, attempted to engage in a sexual relationship with a juvenile student.ย  During the investigation BCI received full cooperation of school officials.ย  The investigation consisted of numerous interviews and the execution of a search and seizure warrant in Lexington Park, Maryland. The investigation resulted in criminal charges being filed charging Jonathan David Cooney, W/M, age 26, of Lexington Park, Maryland with one count of Sexual Offense in the Fourth Degree.ย  Cooney was charged via a criminal summons on March 31, 2011.ย  Additional charges are pending following a review by the St. Maryโ€™s County Stateโ€™s Attorneyโ€™s Office. ย
