CSM Golf Classic Adds 2 New Options, Aug. 13
Sip & Swing Combines Wine Tasting, Golf Instruction at Swan Point Yacht
& Country Club
The College of Southern Maryland Foundation has added two ways to be
involved in the Annual Golf Classic at Swan Point Yacht & Country Club
for community members and college alumni who are unable to devote time
to play a full round of golf. Sip & Swing, sponsored by Quality Built
Homes, Inc., will run during the hours of the Aug. 13 golf tournament
providing an opportunity for those who want to join in the popular
annual eventโbut off the links. Participants in the golf tournament
and Sip & Swing will gather together for post-tournament events at 3
p.m. Alumni Row provides a way to show school spirit while supporting
the CSM Alumni Scholarship. Registration deadline for both new options
is Aug. 4.
โSip & Swing, from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., begins with a four-course
wine and food tasting. Following the tastings, participants will move
out to the driving range and putting green for clinics on putting,
chipping and swinging,โ said CSM Development Director Chelsea Brown.
โWe wanted to find a way to involve the entire community in this
popular event, whether or not you are a golfer or have time to
participate in a golf tournament.โ
Those participating in Alumni Row purchase a tee sign with their name
to showcase their class year. The alumni signs will line the pathway
that golfers use as they leave the clubhouse headed for the course.
The Golf Classic is a signature event for CSM and supported by Marrick
Homes as the grand tournament sponsor for more than 10 years. Other
sponsors include Southern Maryland Newspapers, Chris Rush and Mark
Posten, Educational Systems Federal Credit Union, Old Line Bank,
McDonald & Eudy Printers, Inc., University of Maryland Charles Regional
Medical Center and SMECO. The goal this year is to raise $50,000 to
support CSM Foundation initiatives including athletics and student
scholarships for credit and workforce development programs.
The tournament kicks off with registration at 7:30 a.m.
Prior to the 9 a.m. shotgun start, there is a $10,000 putting contest
co-sponsored by Raley, Watts & OโNeill Insurance and Community Bank of
the Chesapeake. Other contests during the tournament are sponsored by,
Dr. and Mrs. John Sine, Educational Systems Federal Credit Union, CSM
Foundation Director Nancy Hemstead, Southern Solutions, LLC and Waldorf
Chevy Cadillac.
Food and beverage sponsors include Bozick Distributors, Inc.,
Carrabbaโs Italian Grill of Waldorf, Chick-fil-A of La Plata and
Royalle Services, Inc. The day will include a silent auction featuring
vacations, golf trips and other exclusive items.
Following a day out on the links and in golf clinics, participants will
return to the clubhouse for dinner, and announcement of contest and
silent auction winners.
Sponsorships, including additional contest sponsor opportunities, are
available and golfers may register as a team or individually. For
