Charles Sam Faddis

Youโ€™ve probably seen him on Fox News. Now if you are a Republican voter youโ€™ll be seeing his name on the ballot when you go to vote in Marylandโ€™s primary election, Charles Sam Faddis, 56, of Davidsonville is one of two GOP candidates running for the U.S. House of Representatives in Marylandโ€™s Fifth Congressional District (Calvert, Charles, St. Maryโ€™s and parts of Prince Georgeโ€™s and Anne Arundel counties).

The Fifth District incumbent Steny Hoyer is in his 16th term and the Democratic registration in Charles and Prince Georgeโ€™s heavily tips the district in favor of the Democrats. Faddis says he doesnโ€™t want anyone to feel he can wave a magic wand. The race will be won with hard work, fundraising and campaigning in Prince Georgeโ€™s County.

Faddis, who prefers to be called Sam, is retired from the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) after 20 years as an operations officer. He told the BayNet he retired so he could speak out freely. Thatโ€™s where Fox News comes in as he is often seen as an expert in national security issues. He also has written six books, three fiction and three non-fiction, using the real-life experience from his CIA days.

Faddis lists national security as one of his main campaign issues. He is very pro-defense and feels he can do a better job than Hoyer to protect the regionโ€™s military installations. โ€œI will be a better friend to the U.S. military than someone who has never worn the uniform,โ€ he said. Faddis was an Army Armor and JAG officer before joining the CIA.

He said, though, that the number one issue he hears in campaigning is the economy, which he feels can be cured with lower individual and business taxes and a more pro-business federal government.
