
GREAT MILLS, Md. – The Great Mills Swimming Pool is opening on Saturday, June 27. Though the operating schedule has been modified, we are ready to provide a place for wellness, exercise and cool relief from the sunny summer days with your family.
The Great Mills Swimming Pool at 21100 Great Mills Road (next to Great Mills High School) will be scheduling use for lap swimming, exercise and aqua aerobics and open swim for St. Mary’s County residents only. Reservations can be made online each week. Reservations will open Thursday, June 25 for the season. Once all spots are reserved for each time slot, no further entrance will be accepted. Payment will be made when you arrive for your reservation at the pool. Payment will not be taken in advance due to many variables such as inclement weather and price differences by age. You may also contact Recreation & Parks main office to make your reservations over the phone at 301-475-4200 ext. 71800. Reservations requests will close an hour before the reservation time slot. The pool will close between reservation times in order for staff to properly sanitize all surfaces and clean restrooms.

Online Reservations: Visit www.stmarysmd.com/recreate and click on Online Registration. Choose the Aquatics button. Reservations will be made available on a weekly basis. Simply choose your activity and time slot and register all participants in your family who will be attending. Payment will be due upon arrival at your reservation time.

Arriving at the Pool: Please adhere to guidance for checking in and maintaining social distancing once you arrive to the pool. Staff will be providing direction and answering any questions you may have. All guests must reside in St. Mary’s County and are required to wear a mask upon entering the pool bath house and until in place on the pool deck. Masks are not required while in the pool but must be worn once you are out of the water and on the deck. The front door will be an entrance only. To exit the pool, you will need to leave through the exterior gate leading into the parking lot.

Social Distancing
All visitors will be required to bring their own equipment such as kick boards. The pool will not be loaning equipment during the COVID restrictions.
The following will need to be followed for all guests:
1. All guests must be a St. Mary’s County resident.
2. Everyone aged 9 and older, must wear a mask when they enter the front entrance, throughout the locker room and onto the pool deck.
3. Masks are not required while in the water.
4. You and your immediate family must remain 6 feet from other guests at all times both in the water and on the pool deck. While with your immediate family and in a designated 6 foot area, you will not have to wear a mask.
5. A limited number of pool chairs are available. It is recommended that you bring a towel with you as spaces will be marked on the grass for your family.
Pool & Amenity Access
1. A limited number of tables with umbrellas will be stationed in the grassy areas marked off in 6 feet sections. Please know there will be limited shaded areas and they are available on a first come, first serve basis.
2. The front entrance will be opened at the start of your reservation block. You will proceed to pay while maintaining 6 feet distance from the group in front of you. All guests will then filter through the locker rooms and onto the outdoor pool deck.
3. The lockers rooms are open for restroom and sink access only. The bathing suit water extractor is also not available for use.
4. When exiting the pool after your reservation time, you will exit through the exterior gate and into the parking lot.
5. Vending machines, water fountains and showers will not be accessible. Please shower before you arrive at the pool and bring your own water bottle.
6. Food is not permitted anywhere on premise.
Preparations Prior to Arriving at the Pool
1. If you are feeling sick or exhibit any signs related to COVID-19, please stay home.
2. Bring your face mask and water bottle. Water fountains and vending machines will not be accessible.
3. Try to bring exact change or have a credit/debit card ready to pay entrance fees.
4. Shower before you arrive. The showers at the pool will not be available for use at this time.
5. We ask that all guests arrive dressed in their swimsuits. Lockers will not be available to store your personal belongings. All personal belongings must remain with you at all times during your visit.
6. Restroom access is available however showers will not be available for use. Please maintain distance from other guests and take turns using the facilities.
7. Please understand that masks must be worn at all times when not in the water.
Your Safety & Facility Sanitation
Staff have implemented several measures to ensure proper cleaning and adherence to recommendations for COVID-19 guidelines for swimming pools. The schedule allows for the pool to close several times daily to address overall cleaning and sanitization of all surfaces and high touch areas such as doorknobs and faucet handles.
1. All surfaces will be sanitized after each reservation group.
2. Clear barriers have been placed at the front desk to help protect staff and patrons during interactions and when accepting payments for entrance.
3. All tables and chairs will be sanitized after each user. These tables will be located in the grassy areas surrounding the pool deck. There will be a limited number available.
4. Hand sanitizer dispensers are located at the front desk for your use after checking-in.
5. Restrooms will be sanitized twice a day and surfaces wiped after each reservation group.
6. Please follow all directional signs to maintain proper social distancing.
