Although the forecast called for thunderstorms on Saturday, May 16 and the clouds cast an ominous gloom over the land, greyhounds and their families continued to travel from as far north as New Jersey, as far south as North Carolina and as close as Lusby hoping that once again the skies would clear for the Annual Greyt Expectations Greyhound Reunion.
With great anticipation of a wonderful day, each family packed up their picnic stuff and their beloved greyhound, or in most cases greyhounds, to begin the journey to Lusby Maryland where the event was being held.ย You may want to know what you do with that many greyhounds in one area.
It is a wondrous site to see these magnificent creatures running free and enjoying the freedom of being off lead in a large area where they can get up to their full speed of 40 mph, pausing for only a moment to frolic in the nearby river to cool down before they are off again.
Many adopters that had not seen each other since last year hugged and exchanged greetings, greyhounds approached their former foster families with their tails and butts wagging. Everyone was excited to be back to what we call Greyhound Central, the place where it all starts for these wonderful greyhounds and their families.
Soon everyone was settled in and the families were excitedly examining the photo contest, the silent and Chinese auctions, the GEGR vendors and patiently waiting for lunch and the contests to begin.ย The contests consisted of the best ROOer, the best costume, the best recall, the best pair and the most talented. While all this was going on greyhounds were running free, splashing in the river and enjoying their day of absolute freedom.
