Hollywood, MD – February is African American History Month! The Association for the Study of African-American Life and History, the official founders of African American History month, have announced that 2016โs theme is “Hallowed Grounds: Sites of African American Memories.”
Historic Sotterley Plantation would like to honor African American History month by inviting all of our visitors to experience our now-open Land, Lives, and Labor exhibit housed in and around the newly restored Corn Crib building!
Historic Sotterley Plantation, a National Park Service Network to Freedom site, is hallowed ground because hundreds of people of African descent passed through these grounds during the tragic years of slavery and beyond. Some died, some lived, some escaped, all resisted their bondage and many survived. All passed on their life, their history and culture that is embedded in the very core of what our country is today. We at Sotterley honor February as Black History Month and continue to learn, preserve and honor its history and people throughout the year.
