A 24-year-old driver was seriously injured Monday afternoon when he fell asleep at the wheel of his black 2002 Dodge Ram and slammed into a barricade on the side of the road.
The driver reportedly fell aslseep while driving east on Route 4 (St. Andrews Church Rd.) and crossed the center line.
A Chevrolet Silverado 4×4 pulling a trailer swerved to avoid the Dodge and went off the road into some trees. A Chevrolet 500 Suburban also swerved to avoid the collision and went off the road and struck a metal pole.
The Dodge pickup then continued intoย a barricade erected in front of power transformers.
The driver of the Dodge was not wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash. He was taken to the St. Mary’s Airport hanger in Hollywood to be flown for medical treatment by the Maryland State Police Trooper 7 helicopter.
The occupants of the other two vehicles signed refusals for medical treatment.
