High school football week 4 kicked off on Thursday, Sept. 23, 2010 at Great Mills (3-1) as Northern (1-3) rolled in for an evening battle with the Hornets. In a game that was closer than the 21-9 final score, the Great Mills defense held Northern to just one touchdown despite the Patriotsโ strong running game.

Northern took a 7-0 lead on a 20 yard TD run from Jacob Bond in the first quarter. Neither team saw the end zone again until halfway through the third quarter when the Papa John’s Player Of The Game, QB Jordan Hurt scored the first of his three TD’s on the ground. In the fourth quarter, with the game still in doubt, Hurt broke off a 73 yard TD run straight up the middle of the Northern defense on a quarterback draw. With about 30 seconds remaining, hurt ran out of the end zone giving Northern a safety.
On Friday night, Patuxent (3-1) took its undefeated record to McDonough (3-1) and was beaten soundly as the Rams won 41-7. Justin Brooks (11 rushes 99 yards) led off the scoring spree with a 59 yard TD run. Devante Gray had a 46 yard pick 6 to finish the first quarter. Keith O’Kelly (53 yd reception) Devon Boone, Aquil Michaux and Patrick Adams added one TD each on the ground.
The Chopticon Braves (2-2) traveled to Waldorf, coming off a big win against Huntingtown to face a deeper and bigger team at North Point (4-0). The Eagles were led by a strong defense and the strong rushing of Division I college prospect, Emmanuel Onakoya’s 237 yards on 39 carries and one TD (10 yds). Ja’wan Poole added TD receptions of 84 and 15 yards giving North Point a 21-0 lead at halftime.
The Braves showed heart and a tough defense in the second half, shutting down the Eagles and scoring on a 36 yard TD pass from Cody Douglas to Josh Gray and a 12 yard fumble recovery run in by LB Ray Sydnor with 11:03 left in the game. The hitting in this game was fierce but, clean as both teams fought hard to the end. Final, North Point 21, Chopticon 14.
On a beautiful, sunshine filled Saturday afternoon in Washington DC, St Mary’s Ryken (1-3) traveled to St Albans (4-0). St Albans jumped out to a 34-0 lead at halftime but, the Knights showed heart in the second half behind two short rushing TD’s from QB Zach Snell and a 3 yard TD run by Mike Link. The Knights defense finished strong, allowing no additional points and Ryken had a few late opportunities to narrow the lead even further but, St Albans held on for the 34-20 victory.
