Southern Maryland-ย Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) are volunteers dedicated to providing support to abused and neglected children in foster care, and to be their voice within the Social Services and Court Systems.ย Not only does a CASA have the opportunity to form a meaningful relationship with a child, but they will also get to know the childโs case and offer valuable input to the court for the best interest of the child.
โAdvocates donโt need any previous experience or training to volunteer. Our volunteers participate in a 32-hour training program that is a combination of online and classroom learning that will prepare them to carry out their duties as CASA.โ, says Tonya Kennerly, CASA of Southern Maryland Program Manager.
Interested? Stop by an information session in your county to learn more about the CASA program, how to get involved, and even participate in on-the-spot interviews.
