Property on which the Quad House will be located with a section of Singletree behind it
Leonardtown, MD — MedStar St. Mary’s Hospital plans to construct temporary housing for visiting doctors. The Leonardtown Planning and Zoning Commission on Tuesday, Jan. 20 approved a concept plan for the project to be known as the Quad House.
Hospital VP/Finance Richard Braan said that internal medicine physicians would be rotating from MedStar Washington Hospital Center for a residency at the Leonardtown hospital and could use the facility for temporary housing while in the area. He also said sometimes doctors come in for a procedure and can stay at the facility overnight to be rested to do their work the next morning.
The Quad House will look like one big house but actually will contain two one-bedroom and two two-bedroom apartments. It is located on Doctor’s Crossing Road across from St. Mary’s Sunshine Day Care and Pre-School.
An older section of Singletree subdivision will be to the rear of the one-acre property. Planners expressed concern about the buffer between the Quad House and those homes. Town Administrator Laschelle McKay said that issue could be addressed when the project comes back for site plan approval.
The planners unanimously approved the concept plan. Only three of the five commission members were in attendance. Chairperson Jean Moulds and member Jack Candella were not present. Vice Chair Heather Earhart ran the meeting.
