Leonardtown, MD December 30 2016 fire

Leonardtown, MD โ€“ย Fire investigators reported discarded smoking materials started a fire that heavily damaged a St. Maryโ€™s County early Friday morning, Dec. 30. According to the Maryland State Fire Marshalโ€™s Office, the three occupants of the house escaped the blaze unharmed, however, a dog is reported missing.

โ€œThe fire is classified as an accident caused by discarded smoking materials in a flower pot on the front porch,โ€ a deputy state fire marshalโ€™s report stated. The three people in the home at the time of the fire were house-sitters. The owner of the house, identified in the fire marshalโ€™s report as Maximo Regino, is currently out of the country.

Damage to the two-story, wood-framed, single-family dwelling is estimated at $375,000. Forty-five firefighters were dispatched to the one-alarm blaze, which was reported at 2:53 a.m. The crews had the fire under control in 40 minutes. There was a smoke alarm in the home that activated properly.

The three house-sitters are being assisted by family members.

Leonardtown, MD – An early-morning fire occurred Friday morning, Dec. 30 on Challendon Way in the Leonards Grant subdivision in Leonardtown. The occupants were quickly evacuated. The fire was reported shortly before 3 a.m. and reported under control about 25 minutes later.

There are no reports of injuries. The Maryland State Fire Marshal’s Office is conducting an investigation.ย
