WASHINGTON, DC โ€“ Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-05) released the following statement after holding a virtual meeting with the new Maryland State Superintendent of Schools, Mohammed Choudhury:

โ€œIt was a pleasure meeting with the new Maryland State Superintendent of Schools, Mohammed Choudhury, today and discuss our priorities for the school year ahead,โ€ said Congressman Hoyer. โ€œI was glad to hear of Superintendent Choudhuryโ€™s determination and plans to make sure our students and teachers can return to school safely this Fall, especially given the increasing risk of the Delta variant. I am also confident in the Superintendentโ€™s ability to implement once-in-a-generation investments into our public schools though The Blueprint for Marylandโ€™s Future plan, which became law this year, and will make needed enhancements to our public school systems.”

โ€œProviding a pathway to success for all of our students is a common goal for both myself and the Superintendent, and I appreciate his commitment to ensuring that every student in Maryland receives a quality education,โ€ continued Congressman Hoyer. โ€œI look forward to working with Superintendent Choudhury on priorities like strengthening resources for Full-Service Community Schools and Judy Centers, which I have worked to do in honor of my late wife Judy Hoyer, and equity-based initiatives that meet the needs of all our students. I believe the Superintendent will be an excellent leader for Marylandโ€™s schools, and I thank him for his long-standing work on behalf of our children and families.โ€
