Hoyer Statement on October Jobs Report

Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-5) released the following statement today after the Department of Labor released its jobs report for October, which showed 184,00 private sector jobs were added last month:

โ€œToday’s report marks the thirty-second consecutive month our economy has added private sector jobs โ€“ a strong sign that our recovery is continuing and that the economic policies of the Obama Administration are helping move America forward.ย  More Americans are going back to work, and we are reversing the severe job losses that occurred under the Bush Administration.

โ€œIn 2008, our economy lost over 4 million jobs, but since President Obama’s and Congressional Democrats’ recovery policies were put in place weโ€™ve seen 5 million jobs added. However, we cannot be satisfied with the progress weโ€™ve made so far.ย  We must continue to pursue measures that help businesses create jobs that wonโ€™t be shipped overseas.ย  House Democratsโ€™ Make It In America jobs plan, which focuses on revitalizing our manufacturing sector and helping businesses expand and add jobs, is exactly the kind of plan America needs.ย

โ€œCongress has a responsibility to set partisanship aside and work to pass Make It In America legislation that will build on the progress we have already made.ย  I urge both parties to work together to create jobs and move our economy forward.โ€

Congress has taken a few months off, with pay of course, to make sure they keep their own jobs. They only want to solve the problem of the devastating cuts to the defense industry after the election. Our war fighters and their families and tens of thousands of support personnel in the defense industry and in our local economy need action now to protect their jobs over the long term from the over-spending of our Congress.
