WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Steny H. Hoyer [D – MD District 5] released the following statement after the Trump Administration announced it will end cost-sharing reduction payments:
“The Trump Administration’s announcement that it intends to end cost-sharing reduction payments will irreparably harm thousands of Maryland families. According to the Maryland Health Connection, 56 percent of Marylanders enrolled in the exchange qualify for a cost-sharing reduction. Without these payments, families across our state will see their copayments and deductibles increase dramatically. Furthermore, the Trump Administration’s action could potentially drive insurers out of the market entirely.
“This reckless action by the Trump Administration will not only raise premiums for thousands of Marylanders, but force the collapse of health insurance markets throughout the nation. I urge my colleagues in Congress to work expeditiously to stabilize our insurance markets and work to ensure all Americans have access to quality, affordable health care.”
