Leonardtown, MD – An alleged incident that occurred at a high school football game in St. Maryโ€™s County last week has drawn the attention of Congressman Steny Hoyer [D โ€“ MD District 5].ย  According to an account that was posted by a parent, the incident happened during the Great Mills-Leonardtown varsity football game Thursday night in Leonardtown. The parent, who uses the Facebook pseudonym โ€œIkia MyLuv,โ€ stated in a Facebook post that โ€œfirst two while males came over to the Great Mills High School side wearing a Trump shirt with the Confederate flag on the sleeves waving the American flag. A deputy asked them to move and go back to their side but it only got worse from there. They had a whole section of kids yelling things, holding up Trump signs, showing unsportsmanlike conduct and not one adult or school administrator stepped in.โ€ The parent also implied that Great Mills students, parents and athletes were called โ€œghetto.โ€

โ€œI was distressed to hear reports of racist remarks and hateful actions at a high school football game in St. Maryโ€™s County on Thursday evening,โ€ Hoyer stated. โ€œIf these reports are true, these actions are highly disturbing and must not be tolerated. The individuals involved must be held accountable and I urge the St. Maryโ€™s County school board to swiftly address these inexcusable acts of hate. I will continue to monitor the situation closely.โ€

When contacted by TheBayNet.com, a spokeswoman for St. Maryโ€™s County Public Schools reported that neither Superintendent J. Scott Smith nor Deputy Superintendent Maureen Montgomery was available for comment about the incident or Hoyerโ€™s statement.

Great Mills won the game 42 – 13.
