As it does annually, the huge fireworks display over the confluence of the Chesapeake Bay and Patuxent River lit up the summer night sky and attracted hordes to Solomons Island.
The post-dusk show was sponsored by the Solomons Business Association (SBA). The association’s effort is funded by 21 corporate sponsors.
According to the SBA web site, this year it honored local NAVAIR Wounded Warriors and their families “with free tours, entertainment, dinners and preferred fireworks viewing.”
Boats displaying patriotic colors traversed Solomons Harbor in anticipation of the show.
Hundreds stood in awe on the island’s Riverwalk, viewing the spectacular show in the sky.
Despite the presence of rain throughout the day, the much anticipated show went on, as Solomons and surrounding waterfront communities celebrated the 239th birthday of America.
