Leonardtown, MD – The trial of a St. Maryโ€™s County man charged with attempted murder ended Friday, Feb. 22 with the jury unable to reach a unanimous verdict, Circuit Court officials reported. The defendant, James Reginald Flanagan, 22, is accused of shooting and seriously wounding a Prince Georgeโ€™s County man during a Nov. 11, 2017 incident in Lexington Park. Flanagan was apprehended several months after the incident and served a six-count indictment by a grand jury several weeks later. Flanagan was charged with attempted first-degree murder, attempted second-degree murder, first-degree assault, second-degree assault, firearm use in a felony and handgun on person.

โ€œYou have a have a unanimous verdict and all 12 jurors could not agree,โ€ said St. Maryโ€™s County Senior Stateโ€™s Attorney Jaymi Sterling, who told TheBayNet.com that she could not comment further on the case since a retrial was pending.

A call to Flanaganโ€™s attorney, Joshua Tarr, had not been returned as this story was being filed.

Flanagan remains in custody on a no-bond status. A motions hearing for the retrial is tentatively set for April 12 with a jury trial tentatively scheduled for May.

Last weekโ€™s trial began Tuesday, Feb. 19 and was presided over by Visiting Judge M. Brooke Murdock.
