Leonardtown, MD – The trial of a St. Maryโs County man charged with attempted murder ended Friday, Feb. 22 with the jury unable to reach a unanimous verdict, Circuit Court officials reported. The defendant, James Reginald Flanagan, 22, is accused of shooting and seriously wounding a Prince Georgeโs County man during a Nov. 11, 2017 incident in Lexington Park. Flanagan was apprehended several months after the incident and served a six-count indictment by a grand jury several weeks later. Flanagan was charged with attempted first-degree murder, attempted second-degree murder, first-degree assault, second-degree assault, firearm use in a felony and handgun on person.
โYou have a have a unanimous verdict and all 12 jurors could not agree,โ said St. Maryโs County Senior Stateโs Attorney Jaymi Sterling, who told TheBayNet.com that she could not comment further on the case since a retrial was pending.
A call to Flanaganโs attorney, Joshua Tarr, had not been returned as this story was being filed.
Flanagan remains in custody on a no-bond status. A motions hearing for the retrial is tentatively set for April 12 with a jury trial tentatively scheduled for May.
Last weekโs trial began Tuesday, Feb. 19 and was presided over by Visiting Judge M. Brooke Murdock.
