Thereโs a lot of arts and activities at the Huntington Community Center, located in the heart of historic Old Bowie. The centerโs 2010 holiday celebration brought tradition and innovation together, as artists and members of the community created trees from recycled materials. HCCโs Artistic Visions Program acknowledged and honored entrepreneur and artist Ampering Toribio and a Filipino tradition of handmade trees, explained sculptor Jame Lee Toribio.
Huntington Community Center Offers Arts, Wellness
He and Toribioโs other grandchildren donated a hand-crafted tree to the 2010 Calvert County Festival of Trees, entitled, โBeauty of the Bay,โ and was displayed at the Prince Frederick Campus of the College of Southern Maryland. The group also celebrated creativity, recycling and conservation at a community celebration in early December.
The Huntington Community Center supports the arts through monthly and bi-monthly exhibitions and offers opportunities to unleash your creative beast. During the months of Jan. and Feb., works of Antwanyce Richardson, better known as The Rich Ant, will be displayed and the community will get a chance to meet the artist at a celebration Jan. 8, from 7 to 9 p.m.
Aside from fine arts, other creative and wellness opportunities abound at HCC. A Theatre Skills Class is now forming, which will meet Wednesdays from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. beginning Jan. 12. Call (301) 218-6768 for more information.
