New York, NY – Some young people who yearn for a career in theater and film waste very little time making the moves to get the dream fulfilled. Such is the case with Meade Morrison, 18 of Huntingtown. The Huntingtown High School (HHS) graduate, who currently attends New York University, was invited to participate in a creative workshop this past January. The workshop was held in Chicago and led to a big opportunity for the teen. Morrison had the chance to work with veteran advertising and marketing specialists creating a television ad for Taco Bell.
โWe got a lot of creative freedom,โ Morrison told TheBayNet.com in a recent telephone interview. After brainstorming for a few sessions, the group came up with approximately seven ideas to run by Taco Bellโs ad team. โThey liked a couple of the ideas,โ said Morrison, who added that he wrote a rap that was featured in one of the commercials.
Morrison said he and his family moved to Huntingtown when he was a middle school student. He attended Plum Point Middle School and then HHS. Morrison specifically mentioned Derek Anderson, director of the schoolโs Performing/Fine Arts Department as the teacher who inspired him to seek a career in entertainment.
Morrison received a Live Mas Scholarship last year, giving him an opportunity to get started. He explained that he submitted a two-minute video to program officials. โThey really liked it,โ he recalled.
As for the advantages to being a college student in New York City, Morrison admitted it is an ideal location. โIโve always wanted to live in New York,โ he said. โBeing an actor there has tremendous advantages. A lot of theatre happens here.โ Morrison added that the large number of talented people in the Big Apple also is beneficial to his career as a rapper since top notch recording and technical experts are just a local train ride away.
As to what the future holds, Morrison conceded, โthe nature of what I do is kind of fickle.โ As for acting, he hopes to do a lot of local theatre in New York. โTelevision would be wonderful,โ he added.
His recent appearance in the national ad for Taco Bell promoting the Live Mas Scholarship program has created some buzz among Morrisonโs acquaintances in Southern Maryland. Many of his classmates and other local friends didnโt get a heads-up about Morrisonโs appearance in a nationwide commercial. โIโve been getting a lot of texts, saying โI just saw you on TV!โ โ
