The 4th of July brings many friends and family out to celebrate. Whether celebrations are close to home or involve travel for a vacation, law enforcement agencies in St. Maryโs County remind citizens to be safe as they travel on the roadways, obey all traffic laws, avoid aggressive driving behaviors, and be sure to buckle up.ย Additionally officers will be on the lookout for impaired drivers and remind the public to plan to designated driver or other safe sober ride before celebrations begin.
Officers from agencies including Maryland State Police โ Leonardtown Barrack, St. Maryโs County Sheriffโs Office, and Patuxent River Naval Air Station DoD Police Driving will be vigilant in traffic enforcement throughout the holiday weekend.ย Many agencies, in the county and statewide, will be conducting saturation patrols, and speed enforcement.ย Additionally, Patuxent River Naval Air Station will be conducting random seat belt checkpoints and DUI patrols.ย ย
โDriving in an unsafe manner puts everyone at riskโ said Sheriff Tim Cameron.ย โWe commend the majority of our citizens who obey traffic laws.ย However, those who drive impaired, drive aggressively, or otherwise endanger our community will be subject to receiving a traffic citation or arrest.โย
โLaw enforcement agencies in St. Maryโs County are working together to accomplish the same goal โ to keep our citizens safeโ stated Lt. Michael Thompson, Commander, Maryland State Police โ Leonardtown Barrack.ย โOur agencies anticipate many citizens to participate at celebrations and events planned throughout the county, and know from previous years this holiday is a high-volume travel time. Officers will be diligent in enforcing all traffic laws.โ ย
