During the first inning on August 3, Bryant Nelson broke the all-time Atlantic League hit record by recording his 1,053rd hit against the Lancaster Barnstormers at Regency Furniture Stadium.
The record was previously held by Somerset Patriots’ Jeff Nettles. During the 2016 Campaign, Nelson has 94 hits in 88 games played, earning him a spot on the All-Star roster.
Nelson was originally drafted by the Houston Astros in the 1993 MLB Amateur Draft and made his major league debut with the Boston Red Sox on May 14, 2002.
He made his Atlantic League debut with the Bridgeport Bluefish in 2006, and he has since played with the Long Island Ducks (2007-2008; 2012-2013), the Camden Riversharks (2009; 2014), the Lancaster Barnstormers (2010; 2015), and the York Revolution (2011; 2014) before joining the Blue Crabs Roster in 2015 season.
โI believe I speak for the entire Blue Crabs’ organization, the Atlantic league, former teammates, and former coaches when I express how proud I am of Bryant,โ said Blue Crabs Manager Jeremy Owens. โHis hard work, determination, and leadership is something that all players should aspire to reach.โ
The Blue Crabs continue their seven-game homestand with the finale of the four-game series against the Lancaster Barnstormers on Thursday evening at the Regency Furniture Stadium.ย The first pitch is set for 7:05 P.M.
