Deputy State Fire Marshal’s have charged a 43-year-old inmate at the Charles County Detention Center causing a False Alarm and damage to Charles County Detention Center property.
The incident occurred on June 27 at approximately 7:50 a.m. in Tyrone Michael McDowey’s cell. An investigation revealed McDowey hung a sheet from the fire sprinkler head in his cell and pulled it down activating the fire sprinkler. The resulting water flow caused damage to two mattresses and three library books belonging to the detention center.
McDowey was served criminal summons with charges of False Alarm and two counts of Malicious Destruction of Property. If convicted of these charges McDowey could face penalties of five years and four months imprisonment and or $6000 in fines.
