The Maryland State Fire Marshalโ€™s Office is investigating a fire that was intentionally set inside and outside the restroom at P.D. Brown Library in Waldorf. The fire caused about $1,000 damage to the building and $500 to the contents.

The fire that was noticed by a customer at 2:20 p.m. on Saturday was quickly extinguished by an employee. It did not require a fire department response. The library is located on Village Drive in St. Charles.

Deputy Fire Marshal Melissa Bean is the lead investigation. Anyone with information is requested by contact the Southern Region Office at 443-550-6834.

Bean is also investigating another incident earlier in the day on Saturday in which an incendiary device was placed in the roadway on Colonel Beall Place in Hughesville. That device caused no damage to the roadway.
