California, Md. โ€”ย
Recent events in America have placed law enforcementโ€”especially at the local levelโ€”under a microscope. Many citizens are rallying to show their appreciation for the service and protection police men and women provide every day and around the clock.

A show of that support is scheduled to occur during the midday hours of Saturday, July 23 on the roadways of Southern Maryland. The event is called โ€œBack the Blue.โ€ It is envisioned to be an organized procession of Jeeps that will begin and end in St. Maryโ€™s County and pass through Calvert and Charles counties.

The caravan is being coordinated by Frank Borelli, a retired law enforcement officer and founder of the nonprofit organization Patriotic Jeeps. Borelli told The BayNet the Jeep run is being held โ€œto let law enforcement in Southern Maryland know that we appreciate and support them. The participants will rally at Wildewood Shopping Center on Route 235 at 11 a.m. Saturday morning. Our Jeeps will be displaying Thin Blue Line flagsโ€”Thin Blue Line markings taped on. Many of us will be wearing pro-police apparel.โ€

Borelli said that while all local law enforcement agencies have been alerted about the event, organizers are not requesting any special considerations like an escort or the stoppage of traffic. โ€œItโ€™s not anything that formal,โ€ he said. The Jeeps in the caravan will be adhering to all traffic signals.

As of Thursday, Borelli said he was expecting โ€œ50-plus Jeeps to be participating in the Back the Blue caravan.
