Washington, DC – Former astronaut and U.S. Senator John Glenn has died, CBS News reports. He was 95 years old. Hank Wilson with Ohio State Universityโ€™s John Glenn College of Public Affairs said Wednesday, Dec. 7 that Glenn was at the James Cancer Hospital. Glenn died Thursday, Dec. 8.

Glenn became the first American to orbit the Earth in 1962. He served as a U.S. senator from Ohio from 1974 to 1999. He was the last surviving member of the Mercury Astronauts.
