La Plata, MD – Charles County Assistant Stateโ€™s Attorney John Stackhouse was laying out a laundry list of offenses committed in recent years by Tyrel Javonte Adams, 19 of Bryans Road, and it wasnโ€™t pretty.

The prosecutor noted that Adams was no stranger to the legal system.

โ€œYou can see what his prior extensive history was as a juvenile,โ€ Stackhouse told Charles County Circuit Court Judge Amy J. Bragunier Thursday, April 28. โ€œHe has multiple assaults, multiple burglaries. I ask you to take into consideration how many there are. He punched someone in the face which resulted in a broken jaw. The victim had to go to the hospital. There was another case where he punched someone in the face and took his knapsack. When an officer served an arrest warrant on him, he began actively fighting with him and kicked the officer in the groin.โ€

โ€œThere is no hard evidence with respect to Mr. Adams and what is alluded to,โ€ Defense Attorney Jacqueline Swanson told the court.

โ€œI donโ€™t for a minute deny that there may be issues here,โ€ she added. โ€œHe absolutely knows he has work to do on his issues.

โ€œHe has a long-term plan,โ€ Swanson said. โ€œhe really dreams about having his own landscaping business. He does have a vision for himself.โ€

Adams apologized to the court for putting himself in front of the judge.

โ€œI apologize for putting myself in this predicament,โ€ he stated. โ€œI know I shouldnโ€™t have did it.โ€

Bragunier was unrelenting, sentencing Adams to 18 months in the Charles County Detention Center on his first degree assault charge, and a six-month consecutive sentence for second-degree assault.

In the burglary case she handed down two 10-years sentences, but suspended those. The defendant was given credit for 261 days served and given five years of supervised probation upon his release.
