At 4:30 p.m. Jan. 15, Deputy State Fire Marshals charged a 15-year-old boy for setting fire to a construction excavator owned by Calvert Lumber Company on Jan. 11.
The juvenile has been charged with second degree arson, and malicious burning, for the fire at the Ben Oaks Development in Mechanicsville.
A passerby reported the incident after spotting the flames inside the operator compartment of the excavator.
The damage was estimated at $100,000.
The boy was released to the custody of a parent pending further action by the Department of Juvenile Services.
