Leonardtown, MD โ At their January 15 business meeting, the Commissioners of St. Maryโs County accepted a transfer of funds of $44,000. The money represents remaining money forย ย ย ย ย St. Maryโs Countyโs Juvenile Drug Court program.
ย
The program, in existence for the past 14 years, is shutting down due to a reduced number of students in the program. Currently only two students are enrolled.
ย
The Drug Court Advisory Committee wanted to find a worth source to donate the money. The committee voted to give the funds to the St. Maryโs County Department of Recreation and Parks. The money will be used to provide scholarships to allow St. Maryโs County kids to participate in the departmentโs various programs. The money had previously been used to provide scholarships and occupational training.
ย
โThis is a wonderful gift for the youth of St. Maryโs County,โ said Commissioner President Randy Guy. โIt will allow some kids, who may not otherwise be able to afford recreation and Parksโ program, an opportunity to take part without having to worry if they are able to afford it.โ
