Perfect weather greeted Southern Maryland teens as the tryouts for the 2010 Fall sports season began at high schools all around the region.
Sunny skies and temperatures in the mid 80โs were a break from the upper 90โs and heavy humidity we have been facing most of the summer. Students were excited to begin their workouts for Soccer, Volleyball, Cheerleading, Cross Country and Football.
The teams started early on Saturday, August 14, with football players showing up on their respective fields at 6:45 a.m. Most of the teams had given out equipment earlier in the week, so the players were fully ready with their forms, physicals and assorted paperwork turned in.
Skill position players (QB, WR, DB etc) had been working with various teams in 7 on 7 drills to get their defense and passing trees down as well as working out timing between receivers and quarterbacks.

In visits to Chopticon, Great Mills, Ryken and Patuxent, the football teams and each of the coaching staffs were very excited to begin the โofficialโ practice sessions and get ready for opening day. The Southern Maryland Athletic Conference (SMAC) begins their football season on September 3 and St Maryโs Ryken opens on the road at Mt Zion Baptist on August 28th. The first game in their new stadium will be September 3.
BayNet Radio is looking forward to the live broadcast of 20 regular season games throughout the region. We will have the full schedule listed within the next week on the BayNet Radio site and here at www.thebaynet.com.
Good luck to all the athletes!
