Students from Calvert High School were among the vendors at National Night Out’s Harriet Elizabeth Brown Community Center.

Prince Frederick, MD – A nationwide event that was started over 30 years ago and celebrated throughout Calvert County Tuesday, Aug. 7. National Night Out (NNO) is designed to make neighborhoods safer. Residents, law enforcement, first responders and a variety of vendors are part of the communityโ€™s celebration, which is always held the first Tuesday in August.

In addition to games, demonstrations mingling, volunteers at many of the 28 locations were serving foodโ€”the hot dog is the unofficial food item of National Night Out.
Late Tuesday, Aug. 7 Calvert County NNO officials announced that two communitiesโ€”Queensberry and Patuxent Palisades/Shores of Calvertโ€”had cancelled their events. However, the other 28 venues were buzzing with attendees having plenty of summertime fun. Those communities included White Sands in Lusby, which was reviving their annual tradition of hosting a night-out party, and Harriet Elizabeth Brown Community Center in Prince Frederick, which was hosting its first NNO ever. One of Calvertโ€™s two municipalitiesโ€”the Town of North Beachโ€”also held a two-hour event near the boardwalk and pier.

Calvert Countyโ€™s NNO program is sponsored by Calvert Alliance Against Substance Abuse (CAASA).
