Graduates from Henry E. Lackey High School reflected on their senior year and looked to their future during their commencement ceremony held in Upper Marlboro on Tuesday morning.ย In all, 284 seniors graduated.

โ€œWe are a family and we are there for each other,โ€ Lackey High School Class of 2012 Valedictorian Emily Marci said.ย โ€œWe were too lazy to even do a senior prankโ€ฆ this is jjust the beginning.ย The world isnโ€™t ending, the class of 2012 is just taking over.โ€

โ€œSome of you will venture out to serve our country,โ€ Lackey High School Principal James Short said.ย โ€œNever give up on your dreams if you believe you can achieve.โ€

During the ceremony, Juwuan Stewart was remembered.ย  Stewart was a Lackey High School senior when he passed away earlier this year as a result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident in rural Pisgah.ย  Stewart was from Nanjemoy and would have graduated with the class of 2012.

Jehnae Linkins was the Class of 2012 President and Crystal Dionisio delivered the salutatory address.ย The chorus performed the song โ€œBridge Over Troubled Waterโ€ by Simon & Garfunkel during the ceremony and the band performed a rendition of Beian Balmages โ€œAmong The Cloudsโ€.

284 students graduated, earing $5.5 million in scholarships and grants.ย Most of the graduates will attend the College of Southern Maryland.
