LA PLATA, Md.โ€”The Town of La Plata welcomed all witches, princesses, and superheroes Friday, to the Town Hall to enjoy snacks and Halloween crafts with other local families.

From 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. children of all ages came in all varieties of costumes such as dinosaurs, ninjas and ladybugs. The Town offered cookies, fruit, crackers, candy, goody bags and juice for families to enjoy, as well as several different pumpkin and skeleton crafts to create.

The attendance was high and at some moments quite crowded. By the sounds of laughter and the smiles on the childrenโ€™s faces, this was a successful event for both adults and children. The Halloween celebration ensured parents safety of their children and the goodies they received.

Esta Roberts of Waldorf, attended the event for the second year, and said she came back with her family because her two children have a good time with the crafts and snacks.

โ€œItโ€™s a warm atmosphere and fun for the kids,โ€ said Heather Deoudes, of La Plata. The Town Hall Halloween event is โ€œa nice sense of community,โ€ she said.

Mayor Roy G. Hale also attended the event to greet the families of the community.

โ€œThis is one of many events that we hold every year,โ€ said Hale.

Hale said this event offers the children and the community an alternative to the standard trick or treating.ย

โ€œFor those [who] have trouble going out on Halloween night because we restrict [trick or treating] from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.; this gives them an opportunity to bring their children here if they donโ€™t prefer to go out door to door,โ€ Hale said.

Monday, Oct. 31 is trick or treat time within La Plata and โ€œwe recommend children to go out fully accompanied and be concerned about safety and try to stay within their own perspective neighborhoods,โ€ Hale said.
